Improving Student’s Writing Skill of Descriptive Text by Using picture

The journal that I have read last week is Improving Student’s Writing Skill of Descriptive Text by Using picture. The journal is written by  Akhmad Mukhotim Nasir, Abdul Asib, A. Handoko Pudjobroto, they are from English Education Study Program Sebelas Maret University Surakarta.

Research Finding Methods

This research is undertaken to find the goals of that namely factors causing low writing skill of students, identifying the improvement of the students’ writing skill and certain pictures that activate students’ motivation in writing class. The findings are described in this chapter which covers three sections, research process, research findings and research discussion.

First, the research process. The research was conducted on eighth grade of SMP Negeri 5 Kebumen for about 2 weeks. It consists of two cycles; there are three meetings for each cycle. The procedure of action research consists of pre-research, research implementation, and the research discussion as a reflection.

The pre-research was held before conducting the research. It was held in order to identify the problems occurred during the teaching and learning process in relation with students ‘writing skill improvement before using the different technique; to identify the teacher’s technique in teaching writing; and also to identify the students’ learning activity during TL process. Pre-research here include: interviewing the teacher, observing the TL process, and giving pre-test to the students.

Researcher implemented the action plan. In this step, the researcher implemented the teaching learning of the writing skills using Pictures. The first cycle was conducted in three meetings. In teaching writing skills the researcher used four stages namely building knowledge of the field, modelling of the text, joint construction of the text and independent construction of the text.

RESEARCH METHODS

In this research, the writer uses action research method. The action research consists of several stages, planning, pre-research, the research and post research. In this classroom action research, each procedure takes six steps that form a cycle, they are as follows: First, Identifying the problems. The problems were identified first before planning the action. The problems referred to the factors making the low writing improvement of the students. The problems were identified by using three techniques as follows:

(a) Using test. The pre-test was given to know the students’ competence in writing skills.

(b) Interviewing the teacher. The interview was held in order to know the problems faced by the teacher during teaching-learning process.

(c) Observation. The observation was held in order to know the students behavior during the teaching-learning process to know the model of class management and students writing skills. Second, Planning the action.

This action research which concerns on using picture in teaching writing needs some data to be analyzed. The data were collected through observation, interviews, field notes, and also the result of the tests. The data of the research were conducted by using some techniques of qualitative data collection include: interview, observation, diary, and document analysis. The implementation of the research was also in photographs to provide more accurate data.

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT BY USING PICTURE

The journal that I have read last week is Improving Student’s Writing Skill of Descriptive Text by Using picture. The journal is written by  Akhmad Mukhotim Nasir, Abdul Asib, A. Handoko Pudjobroto, they are from English Education Study Program Sebelas Maret University Surakarta.

The aim of this journal of thee research that I have read is to investigate whether or not pictures can improve students’ writing skill and class condition. The writer chose the subject of this research is students of class VIII A in SMP N 5 Kebumen. The method of the research is a classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection.

To collect the qualitative data, the researcher used field notes, photograph and interview. To collect the quantitative data, the researcher conducted tests. The tests were pre-test and posttests. To analyze the qualitative data, the researcher used interactive model data analysis. For the quantitative data, the researcher analyzed the mean scores of the tests to compare differences between pre-test and post-test. The writer claimed that the result of the research shows that teaching writing skill by using pictures could improve the students’ writing skill and the class condition.

The improvements of the mean scores showed that there was an improvement on the students’ writing skill. The students’ mean score of pre-test is 51.15, it improves up-to 57.79 in the post-test I and up to 60.82 in the post-test II. Therefore, it could be concluded that teaching writing skill by using picture could improve the students’ writing skill.

Post Intermediate Reading (Book Review : Lord of The Flie by William Goulding) chapter 10, 11, 12

Lord of The Flies
by William Golding

Author                   : William Golding
Country                 : United Kingdom
Genre                    : Allegorical Novel
Publisher              : Faber and Faber
Publication Date : 17 September 1954
ISBN                      :  0-571-05686-5 (first edition, paperback)

Chapter 10 "The Shells and the Glasses"

As the chaos surrounding Simon's death calms down, Golding focuses on the horror Piggy and Ralph feel about their involvement in the murder. The two boys attempt to justify their role in Simon's death with the ideas that they did not know that it was Simon until it was too late, they were not among the inner circle of boys beating him to death, and they operated on instinct rather than on malice.

Still, the involvement of Piggy and Ralph makes clear that even these two, the paragons of rationality and maturity among the children on the island, are susceptible to the same forces that motivate Jack and his hunters. Golding obscures the once-clear dichotomy between the "good" Ralph and the "evil" Jack, demonstrating that the compulsion towards violence and destruction is present inside all individuals. The reverse, a "good" Jack, is rarely in evidence. The implication of Ralph's and Piggy's brief but tragic participation in the brutal activities of Jack's tribe is that the natural state of humanity is neither good nor evil but mixed. Social order and rules, with conscience and reason helping out only on occasion, are what constrain and limit the "evil" impulses that exist inside us all.

Chapter 11 "Castle Rock"

As the tension between Ralph and Jack comes to a violent head, Golding again establishes the conflict between the two boys as an explicit struggle between savagery and civilization. The two continue to clash over previously developed points of conflict: Ralph criticizes Jack for his lack of responsibility and his ambivalence toward rules of order and justice, and Jack continues to blame Ralph for his lack of direct action against the beast. Their accusations express and emphasize their respective visions of human society on the island: while Ralph is oriented towards a cooperative community organized around the common goal of getting rescued, Jack adheres to a militaristic ideal and unites his tribe around a shared interest in hunting, self-gratification, and fear of the mythical island beast.

Chapter 12 "Cry of the Hunters"

The final chapter emphasizes the self-destructive quality of the boys' actions. Throughout the novel, Golding has indicated that the boys are destructive not only to their enemies, but to themselves, a theme that culminates dramatically in this chapter. Images of decay permeate the final scenes, particularly in the Lord of the Flies, which decayed until it became only a hollow skull. Significantly, Ralph dismantles the Lord of the Flies by pushing the pig's skull off of the stick it was impaled on, an act that mirrors and completes Roger's destruction of the conch in the previous chapter. The destruction of both objects signals to the reader that the boys have been plunged into a brutal civil war.

Ralph takes apart the Lord of the Flies-a totem for Jack's tribe-to use the stick it is impaled on as a spear with which to attack Jack. Ralph's action thus indicates that he has accepted Jack's savage terms of war, a conflict he had previously approached with reason and nonviolence, but it is too late for that. Ralph's decision to attack Jack or at least to defend himself with a weapon indicates that he too has devolved into savagery. All vestiges of democratic civilization on the island are gone, and it is unclear if Jack's monarchy retains any civilization at all.

My Experience in Reading

I love Reading

I have read a number of book reviews from well-known bloggers as well as from ordinary readers. but the time I was given the opportunity to fulfill my college assignment to read my classmate's blog.

In their writing, there are a lot of important things that I can take, including how to write a blog properly and correctly, how to live a daily life with greater happiness and much more. in some of the blogs they wrote I also found a review ofveve harry potter which I really like is that they write the review with the storyline in accordance with their views and make their writing more interesting.

My messages to our friends must be better to learn to write because after reading this experience I am sure you will know the impact of writing and sharing random writing to others is something that is very amazing.
